Photography: Gel Lighting

We looked at gel lighting and how to make the background gradient in colour and how to create a halo effect around our model.

To change the background colour, we would place a gels over a light(s) (depending on what colour you want) behind the model and have the model placed in front so that the lights are hidden. This will light up the background when they flash.
To light up the models face, place the light in front as you would a normal set up with whatever colour gel you want over the top.
To create a halo effect, have one light facing the background and one facing the opposite way (towards the camera). Then have your model stand in front of the light but so it is hidden, it will then light up the model from behind when it flashes.
