Hair - Finger Waves

Equipment:

  • Paddle brush
  • Pintail comb
  • Sectioning clips
  • Kirby grips
  • Spray bottle
  • Hair gel
Steps:
  1. Brush through hair to remove any knots.
  2. Spray hair with water until fully saturated. Using gel will make the hair stickier and create a hard feel and wet look to the hair.
  3. Comb through a section of hair from the root. Take the comb and move it towards either the front of the back of the head.
  4. Once in position, take your finger and pinch the hair to hold. Place the comb under and brush up the hair and pinch with your fingers.
  5. Take the comb and the remaining hair and direct the hair in the opposite way to the first one. Again, pinch the hair with your fingers.
  6. Keep on doing this in opposite ways so it creates an 'S' shape.
  7. To help hold the grips in place, you can use either kirby grips or sectioning clips. (Make sure they are flat as any grooved clips will leave a mark on the hair).
  8. Leave to dry naturally, or place under a dryer until hair is set completely and remove grips.
Unfortunately I didn't get any step by step photos of me doing it as I didn't have any free hands! But I do have the end result.

I am pleased with how my finger waves came out, especially asa this was my first time at doing them. I found it quite difficult to get my head around as it is a whole new technique for me and my hands wouldn't do what my brain was telling them to do. However, after many many attempts I think I started to pick it up slowly. I only used water for this look, I do think gel would have helped set and hold it in place better so I will try that next time. It's not perfect, but it's not going to be on my first time. I will definitely be practicing this over summer!
