Ellis Faas - London Trip

Ellis Faas is located on the second floor beauty department in Fortnum & Mason in London, amongst other unique brands. The counter was surprisingly small yet compact enough to show a range of her products. The display almost mimicked the compactness of the Ellis Holder. The brand name wasn't the main feature of the display but it was recognisable from the packaging and products and there were testers available of every/if not most shade and products. The clever packaging in terms of bold colour and shape makes it easy to find in bags/kits. Clever accessories/clips and holders to keep products together.

After my recent visit, I have a few questions that I wanted to find out:
  • As the products are non refillable, are they recyclable?
  • The brand is asking customers to return any empty pens, which will then be given to a group of artists for creating sculptures and mixed medias pieces.
  • Can you wash the brushes, if so how?
  • Yes, wash the brush with a bit of soft soap and wash away under a running tap. It also makes it easier for the emulsions coming through the applicator. Especially if you don’t use the products regularly, the product in the applicator may dry. So to prevent clogging, do keep your brushes clean!
  • How many times do you have to turn the pen for the product to come out?
  • If you have used the pen before, only a few clicks should be sufficient – if you have not used the pen for a while, do not continue to turn, but first clean the applicator to make sure it is not clogged, and then try again. If the pen has not been used before, turn the base clockwise, just until you notice the substance coming into the applicator. As soon as you see the substance appearing, please wait half a minute to let the product saturate the applicator and then click an extra time to get enough product to use.

For the Foundation you have pump/press it, everything else you twist. There are no instructions in the box but you get told how to use on purchase. However, if they are bought as a present and the person who bought it forgets to tell you how to use it, you will have to go online for help as opposed to reading a leaflet in the book. All of the colours were human colours but it could be argued that the hot lips shades were more brighter and vivid than others.
